    Welcome to 8^th grade science! This letter is to inform you of my class policies and to give you a brief overview of what we will be studying this year in science. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Grading Policy:

        Grading will be based on:

ü  Tests/Quizzes/Formal Assessments                                          35%

ü  Classwork/Participation                                                           30%

·          Required Materials (homework, supplies)

·          Daily SEPUP activities

ü  Projects/Alternative Assessments/Lab Reports                         20%

ü  Homework                                                                               15%

Homework/Labs/Activities:

        Homework will be assigned regularly. It is rarely given on Fridays.

        Homework assignments can be handed in up to 5 days late. However, students will lose 10 percent each day the assignment is late. If we go over the assignment in class, the student will receive half credit

        You are responsible for all work assigned in class even if you are not in class. Ask for missing work upon your return from your teacher or a classmate.

Daily Materials:

        Students are required to bring their 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, homework, agenda book, and working pens and pencils to class every day. (There will be notebook checks often)

Extra Credit/Extra Help:

        Extra Credit will be assigned to the class as a whole, not to individuals.  It is your choice to do the extra credit when assigned.  There are also extra credit opportunities available if you complete your classwork early.

        Students are welcome and encouraged to request extra help whenever they need it. We can often find time for extra help during lunch or after school. If you need help with something, tell me as soon as possible!  Don’t wait!

Class Rules and Expectations

        The TOR code of conduct as well as:

o   Be Respectful – of people, our classroom, and class materials

o   Be Responsible – for your learning, your grades,  your materials, and your actions

o   Keep the Classroom Safe – Physically and Emotionally.

Consequences:

        Any student who does not follow classroom rules will face the following:

o   1^st time: reminder of rules and a warning

o   2^nd time: Lunch detention

        If the problem continues, students will receive any of the following at the teachers discretion:

o   Student’s parent/guardian will be notified

o   After school detention

o   Referral to Principal

 (Note: any student whose behavior is unsafe or very disruptive will be sent to an administrator without a warning)

Hall Passes:

     For you to do well in class, you must be in class! Please plan ahead and go to your locker during ASSIGNED locker times and go to the bathroom between classes or during lunch. You must ask permission and have your own passport to leave the classroom.

How to Succeed: Come to class prepared and with a good attitude. Use your agenda book! Ask questions when you don’t understand. Check my website daily!
