Test Friday

Okay people Simple Machines is coming to a close. Our test is soon and the following topics will be covered:

  • All 6 Types of simple machines
    • Lever, Pulley, Wedge, Inclined Plane, Wheel & Axle, Screw
  • The input force and output force of all the simple machines
  • What Work means. The force on the object and the motion MUST be in the same direction!
  • Work = Force x Distance (we measure work in Joules)
  • Mechanical Advantage = Output Force / Input Force
    • Mech. Advantage means how many times the force is multiplied by the machine
  • Efficiency = (Output Work / Input Work) x 100
    • Efficiency is how well the machine is working. It is ALWAYS less than 100% because we always 'lost' some force to friction

CP: You're taking the test on Friday so tomorrow is your last day in class to finish the review and ask me any questions. I will be available at lunch and after school. These links are answer keys to materials we have had in class:

Input and Output Forces

Efficiency Notes

Mechanical Advantage Notes

How to make a flipchart to study (These were done in class today!)

CP Test Review Homework

Work, Mechanical Advantage, and Efficiency Practice

Honors: 001 You'll be taking the test tomorrow. 002 you'll be taking Friday. I'm sure you're all ready for it. Either way, I've attached your materials as well:

Input and Output Forces

Efficiency Notes

Mechanical Advantage Notes

Honors Test Review Homework

Work, Mechanical Advantage, and Efficiency Practice

Good luck studying and e-mail with any questions!

Friday's Notebook Check

MANY of you owe me the notebook quiz from Friday 12-13-13.

If you missed the quiz, I need it done by Friday at the latest.
Do it as a take-home quiz and turn it in to me ASAP!

Thanks!

004- S.N.     A.V.

What a snowy week!

Hi Everyone!
So the plan for this week is as follows:

Monday- We learned about the efficiency of machines (efficiency notes) and then worked on a group challenge that involved applying all formulas from the simple machines unit (work, MA, and Eff).
Honors took notes on efficiency and did this WS for HW so you could work on your Rube Goldberg machine.

Tuesday- early release and SAT testing
Since I only saw some of you today, we may have to wait to make the complete Rube Goldberg until after Winter break to have time to prepare for Friday's Simple machines test.

Wed- Math SAT testing
Flipbooks
Review Sheet for HW

Thursday-
Test Review
001- Simple Machines test

Friday-
Simple Machines Test
001 only- Rube Goldberg Creation

This weeks handouts- (Every class is in a slightly different spot so you may have to search for what handouts you need, but they should be here somewhere!)

Input and output force notes, MA notes, Efficiency notes

Work, MA, and EFF WS (honors and 003)

Work, Eff, MA CW (004) review sheet for 003

Flipbooks (how to create)

TEST FRIDAY!

Have a Wonderful Winter Break!

Input and output force notes

Input and Output force Mini posters due Tuesday

Today in class we learned the input and output forces of all simple machines. We then worked with our groups on mini posters for your assigned simple machine. Posters are due on Tuesday and be prepared to teach your peers about your specific simple machine.

I will be out on Monday-- BE GOOD! You will be working on an open notebook quiz.
We will present mini-posters Tuesday.

Friday Dec. 13 we will be having a notebook quiz. Make sure your glossary and notebook are organized.

Grade updates for mid quarters went home today for science and social studies. Make sure you and a parent sign the grade update. Return the form to Mr. DeFilippo on Monday for a homework grade in science and social studies.

Have a great weekend!

Poster Rubric:

*Use the blue textbooks
*Working with a partner

  • your simple machine
  • examples
  • how does it make our lives easier (distance, direction, force, or a combination)
  • input and output force drawing
  • mention the mechanical advantage formula (honors)

Lab Report Helpful Hints

Labs are due Thursday Dec 5th. Today, introductions were due. If you didn't have it done, I'll see you for lunch tomorrow to work on it.

Tomorrow, you need to have your materials, initial observations, and procedure paragraphs written out.

In class tomorrow, we will be working on writing a conclusion. For homework you will need to write your error section, conclusion, and make the cover page.

How to write a conclusion
