Glossary Update

GLOSSARY:

·         Problem: the question being investigated
·         Hypothesis: an educated guess
·          independent variable: what your change in an experiment
·          dependent variable: what your measure in an experiment
·          Constants: things you keep the same in an experiment
·         Control: no independent variable; used to compare with data to see if variable affects results
·         Observation: describing something using your 5 senses
·          Qualitative: qualities of an object ex: round, blue
·          Quantitative: describing an object using number ex: 5 cm wide
·         Materials: the stuff you use in your experiment
·         Procedure: the steps you follow to test the hypothesis
·         Data: the results collected
·         Errors: mistakes made during the lab that may affect results
·         Conclusion: answer your problem question, back up your analysis with data
·         Energy: causes objects to move, change, or do work
·         trade-off: give up something to get something
·         consumption: to use up
·          potential energy: stored energy that has not yet been used
·          GPE: energy based on gravity and position above the ground
·          kinetic energy: energy of motion
·          Transfer: to move from object to object
·          Transform: to change from one form into another GPE à KE
Friction: when two forms of matter rub against each other in opposite directions; causes thermal energy
